Swayway Midi Wind Chimes

PIC microcontroller, sensors, LEDs, plastic, wood

Swayway is an interactive audio sculpture that translates its swaying motion into sound and light. A microphone captures ambient sound which is converted into MIDI sounds and modified according to the motion of the reeds. LEDs at the base also reflect the movement -- the greater the movement, the brighter the LEDs. Flexible sensors attached to the plastic reeds sense the bending movement. Presented at the New Interfaces for Musical Expression Conference, 2005. A collaboration with Mauricio Melo.
